It is worth mentioning here that the Xperia Z is a water and dust proof smartphone unlike other three phones in the comparison table. Other than these features shown above, all of the smartphones possess exclusive features which are, in several cases, a first for the industry. HTC One manages to perform well even in this crowd too but I don’t think its that great when compared to the Xperia Z which is arguably the best phone available right now.

HTC Butterfly lands in our office, check it out before the review ninjas take it away

The HTC device which made a big name for itself by being the first with a 5″ 1080p screen from a major manufacturer has finally arrived in our office.


We were able to snap a few pictures and even get a quick video of the device in action before sending it off to reviewland, so join us for our first impressions of the HTC flagship and its FullHD screen.
The Butterfly continues the design principle set forth by previous HTC flagships, by making the surrounding edges even more flush with the screen, and removing the camera lens bump almost entirely.
Under the hood you’ll find a beefy quad-core 1.5GHz Krait and Adreno 320 GPU alongside 2 GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (11GB of which are user available). There’s also a 2020 mAh battery to power it all, which you’ll need every ounce of, given the amount of pixels the device has to push out.

The display is impressively crisp and the Butterfly can certainly turn a few heads, as HTC has made some great strides in improving what was already a stellar design. We’ve taken a brief video of how the Butterfly stacks up to its DROID DNA counterpart, as well as its HTC One X predecessor.

Samsung and Apple held 52% of the smartphone market in Q4

Gartner, the popular analyst company has released its quarterly report, which shows that Samsung and Apple continue their domination in the smartphone market, while the third place is up for grabs.

The top two manufacturers have a combined market share of 52% with Samsung accounting for 64.5 million shipments, while Apple managed to sell 43.5 million units. The South Koreans saw an increase of 85.3% in their sales, while at the same time Apple's sales were up by 22.6% from the last year.
Android extended its lead over other operating systems by adding 145 million units, out of which Samsung accounted for 42.5%. Meanwhile, Apple's iOS market share dropped from 23.6% to 20.9% in the last quarter, but remains ahead of other rivals.

According to the Gartner's report, the third place in the smartphone game is currently held by Huawei, who managed to sell more than 27 million handsets in 2012. However, the Chinese company only holds the spot by the skin of its teeth and the competition for it remains fierce.

Analyst: Apple Could Finally Be Opening Up Apple TV To Developers At An Event In March

The Apple TV could finally be getting a developer SDK that would allow third-party apps to appear on the platform, according to an analyst note from Jefferies analyst Peter Misek today. The note cites channel checks as the source of the info that Apple will hold an Apple TV-related event in March, at which time it may introduce an SDK for “iTV” development.
Misek also predicts that there will be an actual hardware Apple television set launching later in the year, around September or October, meaning Gene Munster isn’t the only analyst singing that particular tune. But so-called iTV or no, the possibility that Apple will finally open up its set-top box to developers the way it has done with the iPhone and iPad is exciting.
But we’ve been here before. The Apple TV has always seemed ripe for a third-party developer SDK, ever since it originally launched back in 2007, and especially once the second generation model came out in 201o. It was even running a version of iOS when the little black model debuted, which seemed like a guaranteed sign that it was only a matter of time before we’d see Apple do the same thing they’d done with the iPhone: unlock the potential of the platform with an SDK and developer program.
Instead, what we actually saw was Apple roll out third-party apps with various updates, one or a few at a time, carefully gating access to the platform. As to why it would do that, there are a few reasons, but I’d guess that at least part of it has to do with Apple’s ongoing efforts to negotiate content deals with major providers including networks and film studios. Move too quickly to unlock the platform, and you risk incurring the enmity of content distributors who want to have a say in who has access to a channel. Those old media giants probably aren’t too comfortable with a Wild West App Store-type vibe making its way to the living room, especially when it has the popularity and install base of Apple’s iOS users.
In a roundabout way, there are already apps on the Apple TV, and not just the native ones Apple has given golden approval. AirPlay means most apps can mirror their content from an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to the big screen, and do so with a high degree of fidelity, for the most part. But the difference is akin to when Apple originally said that third-party developers can build apps for iPhone, but they’d have to use the web browser to do it. There’s a lot you can accomplish, but it’s not the same as if the apps were operating natively on Apple TV itself.
So how likely is it that this time we’ll actually see Apple open things up? If it is planning a full television launch, an App Store ready to go and populated with content ahead of time would help it greatly, but that depends on Misek’s sources being right on both counts. Misek has been hit or miss when it comes to Apple rumors in the past, but he did get pretty close on iPhone 4S details ahead of its launch back in 2012.

It's no secret that Samsung is dominating the Android market, but the margin of its lead might be a bit surprising to some. According to a report from mobile analytics firm Localytics, the Koreans account for eight of the top 10 Android devices in use.

As one can expect, Samsung's latest flagship Galaxy S III and its predecessor Galaxy S II are the top guns, holding a combined share of 17.4%. The mid-range Galaxy Ace is a distant third spot with 3% of the Android market, followed by the Note and the Note II phablets with 2.6% and 2% respectively.
Amazon's Kindle Fire sneaks in the list with 1.7% of the Android users. The tablet is followed by the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 with 1.4% of the Android devices. The other smartphones in the list are Galaxy Y, Droid RAZR and Epic 4G.
According to the report, Samsung controls whopping 47% of the total Android market share.
